Senusret I was made co-regent with his father, Amenemhat I, twenty years into his fathers reign. His obelisk at ancient Heliopolis in Cairo is the oldest standing obelisk in Egypt, and another less known obelisk sits in the center of a roundabout in Medinet el-Fayyum.
He is included in Manetho's king list as Sesonkhosis, but his name is absent on all the New Kingdom king lists except the Turin Canon (), where part of his name is found along with a 45 year reign.

Senusret I Kheperkare (also known as Sesostris I and Senwosret I) was the second pharaoh of the Twelfth Dynasty (Middle Kingdom) of Ancient Egypt. The Turin Canon confirms that he ruled Egypt for forty-five years.
He was the son of Amenemhat I and his wife was Nefertitanen, and it is generally considered that Amenemhat I made Senusret his co-regent (possibly around the twentieth year of his reign). However, Obsomer has questioned whether there was in fact any co-regency.
It is notable that the text of the Instructions of King Amenemhat for his son Senusret suggests that the succession had not been legitimised before Amenemhat was assassinated. This text was probably composed by Khety on the orders of Senusret in order to confirm his position and eulogise his father. Hornung suggests it may have been the inaugural address of Senusret and Callendar notes that it would have served as a useful excuse to allow him to take punitive measures against his opponents.
In this text the ghost of Amenemhat states;
bloodshed occurred while I was without you; before the courtiers had heard I would hand over to you; before I had sat with you so as to advise you. For I had

He pursued his father Amenemhat I’s aggressive dynastic territorial expansion with expeditions against Nubia in the south and into Egypt’s western desert. Senusret was campaigning in Libya when news of his father’s assassination in a harem plot reached him and he rushed back to Memphis.

Senusret I
Despite being known for long and peaceful reign within Egypt, Senusret I devoted his rule to offensively protecting Egypt’s borders. Egyptologists consider him the most powerful pharaoh of the Twelfth Dynasty of the Middle Kingdom.
Prepared for Power
Senusret was the son of Amenemhat I and his chief wife Nefertitanen. His birth name meant “Man of goddess Wosret” and may have been the name of his maternal grandfather. Egyptologists believe that Amenemhat I made Senusret his co-regent ten years before his death. This was the first instance of co-regency in recorded Egyptian history.

The position of co-regent prepared Senusret for his place as king and firmly established him as heir to the throne. "The Story of Sinuhe” recounts the events that led to his ascension to the throne. While fighting in Libya, Senusret received word of his father’s assassination at the conspiracy of his harem. Senusret returned home and easily took his place as the second king of the dynasty. He then took the throne name of Kheperkare, which means “The Soul of Re comes into Being.”
King Senusret would later repeat the same transit
