Internet myth busted

AYou've probably seen the one I'm referring to as often as I have. It's the one where actor Lee Marvin cites Bob Keeshan (better known as "Captain Kangaroo") as the "bravest man I've ever known," describing his actions at Iwo Jima. The message says Marvin made that statement on the Johnny Carson Show one night. It also adds that Mister Rogers was a trained Navy SEAL who served in Vietnam.
Although it makes for a great story, little of it is true. What is true is that Marvin and Keeshan were both in the Marine Corps, but Keeshan joined up just as World War II was ending and he never saw combat. Marvin was never at Iwo Jima, but he was wounded by enemy fire at Saipan and he received a Purple Heart, not a Navy Cross. And Fred Rogers, though he was a great guy, never served in the military at all. And neither did John Wayne, for that matter.

Debunking the Military Myth
According to fact-checking and myth-busting website Snopes, there appear to be a few rumors about Bob Keeshan circulating the internet. The prominent rumor argues that it has a clip of dialogue taken from ‘The Tonight Show’ between actor Lee Marvin and host Johnny Carson.
In the clip, Lee Marvin talks about how Bob Keeshan is the bravest man he ever knew and maintained that the two fought together at Iwo Jima in the Pacific. The transcript of the dialogue has been shared widely through emails.
The only problem with this story?
