Ex-Towergate boss Mark Hodges is named new British Gas manager
INSURANCE veteran Mark Hodges has been appointed as managing director of British Gas, taking over from interim manager Ian Peters.
In his new role, which he takes up from 1 June, Hodges will be paid a basic salary of £,, as well as an annual bonus of up to per cent of his salary and up to a maximum of per cent if his performance materially exceeds targets, subject to shareholder approval.
Peters is to remain with British Gas’s parent company Centrica, and will take on the role of director, customer facing strategy.
Angelos Anastasiou, utilities analyst at Whitman Howard, said the appointment “seems sensible”.
Shares in Centrica were up slightly by per cent yesterday.

Centrica has announced the appointment of Mark Hodges as managing director of British Gas ending an month search for a new leader.
The appointment, external follows the departure of Chris Weston, who announced he was leaving British Gas to join Aggreko last May.
Mr Hodges joins British Gas from specialist insurance broker, Towergate.

A former top executive at Aviva and British Gas will this week be appointed to spearhead the latest takeover quest of Marwyn, one of the London market's most prolific creators of listed acquisition vehicles.
Sky News has learnt that Mark Hodges, who has run some of the biggest companies in the British insurance industry, will be named on Monday as chairman of Marwyn Acquisition Company II (MAC II).
The recruitment of Mr Hodges, which sources said would underline Marwyn's ability to continue hiring leading executives across a range of sectors, will coincide with a narrowing of MAC II's focus to the financial services, consumer and technology industries.
