Manuel Carlos María Francisco Piar Gómez (Willemstad, April 28, Angostura del Orinoco, October 16, ) was a Venezuelan military man born in Curacao, hero of the Independence of Venezuela. And also within the channels of Venezuelan republican history he is recognized as the Liberator of Guayana and Undefeated Generalissimo, for having fought 24 battles and not having been defeated .

He was born in Willemstad, Curacao, where he was baptized on April 28, He was the son of Fernando Alonso Piar y Lottyn, a Spanish merchant pilot originally from the Canary Islands, and the mulatto María Isabel Gómez born in Curacao. He arrived in La Guaira in , with his mother, María Isabel Gómez. Self-taught, he acquired training for himself, becoming knowledgeable in several languages.
