Lionel Zinsou

Co-founder and Managing Partner of SouthBridge, Lionel Zinsou is former Prime Minister of the Republic of Benin ().

Previously, he was an Executive Director for Danone where he held several positions, General Partner at Rothschild & Cie and President of PAI Partners, one of the major private equity funds in Europe.

His professional career began as an academic before joining the office of the Minister of Industry ( – ) and Prime Minister ( – ), Laurent Fabius.

Mr Zinsou is currently a member of the Board of several institutions and companies, including Terra Nova (president), Danone, PAI Partners and Attijariwafa Bank.

He studied at Ecole Normale Superieure as well as Paris IV and Paris VII universities (history of economics). He also graduated from Sciences Po Paris and was a research member of the London School of Economics.

After working at BSN, Lionel Zinsou was Managing Partner of Rothschild & C in before joining the investment fund PAI Partners.

 

Lionel Zinsou is also leader of the Brotherhood club, Laurent Fabius think tank, and a director of the Operating Committee of the Libération newspaper designated by Édouard de Rothschild after the departure of Serge July. He is also the director of the Institut Montaigne Committee and advisor to the President of Benin, Yayi Boni.

He wrote in with Hubert Védrine report on economic issues in Africa.
Lionel Zinsou wants "afroptimiste" - as opposed to Afro-pessimism - and is involved in promoting the revival of the post African economy.

 

He took part in to the creation of the Zinsou Foundation in Benin, headed by his daughter Marie-Cécile Zinsou, designed to promote the arts.

Il a ensuite occupé plusieurs postes au sein de l’entreprise : directeur du développement, chef des opérations de la division épicerie au Royaume-Uni et aux États-Unis, directeur général de la division épicerie et membre du comité exécutif.
