Brian Anthony Boitano was born on October 22, , in Mountain View, California, to parents Donna and Lew. He played Little League baseball and roller-skated as a child but became enamored with ice skating when he was eight years old after watching a performance of Ice Follies.
Boitano started taking group lessons with a local coach named Linda Leaver, beginning a lifelong relationship between mentor and pupil.

Boitano became the U.S. Junior Men’s champion at age At 19, he was the first skater to complete all six different triple jumps in a World Championship.

Brian Boitano has always set high goals for himself. First, he decided to become a figure skater and practiced on roller skates until his parents agreed to ice skating lessons. Then he decided to win the biggest championship in the sport, the Olympic gold medal, and accomplished that feat at the Winter Olympics. When he turned professional, he decided he wanted to be the best and he was, winning five professional titles. Finally, he decided he wanted one more chance to skate in the Olympics. In he achieved this last goal when he took to the ice in Lillehammer, Norway.
