On July 15, , Elder Joe L. Cunningham was selevated as Pastor of Greater Faith Apostolic Church. At the time he and his wife, Evangelist Augusta, were members of Christ Temple in Kalamazoo, where Diocesan Bishop Harry L. Herman was their pastor.

Eld. Cunningham had formerly served as an Assistant Pastor both to the Late Bishop David L. Ellis, and subsequently to his son, Bishop Charles Ellis III, at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit. His membership there spanned twenty three years.

Pastor Cunningham worked for the Detroit School system for thirty-five years as a teacher and administrator.

His educational training includes a Bachelor&#;s degree from Bradley University, a Master&#;s degree from Wayne State University, as well as post Master&#;s studies at the University of Michigan, and Aenon Bible College.

Over a decade ago, Eld. Cunningham retired from the school system, and Sis. Cunningham retired from the Detroit Police department after a twenty five year tenure. The couple relocated to South Haven, Michigan, where Elder Cunningham has a host of close relatives.

OUR HISTORY:   OVER YEARS OF GOD’S AMAZING GRACE AND FAVOR

God has brought Greater Grace Temple “a mighty long way.” From the original 3-member congregation, formed in the basement of Bishop Ellington Forbes’ Detroit home to today’s member mega-church Greater Grace Temple has been on the move.

Yes, it all started with Bishop Forbes, his wife, and mother-in-law.  Early on, their great struggles, incredibly lean years when the congregation was forced from building to building.  America had just come out of the great depression and money was short.  They were often unable to pay the rent and deep in debt. Yet, like Abraham, they believed God and walked on by faith.  Today, GGT’s brand new, million dollar church and conference center sits on an attractive acre complex known as the “City of David.”

Citadel: A fortress in a commanding position, a fortified place; a bulwark. A place where people can go for shelter during a battle.

Citadel of Praise was started in July of The Lord gave the vision to our Founder and Senior Pastor, Spencer T. Ellis, to begin the ministry after much fasting and praying. God told him to name the church "Citadel of Praise". Citadel of Praise is a church where God replenishes his people with power to resist attack from the enemies of life. In Psalms , the Lord declares to the people to, "Enter into his gate with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name." The Citadel is non-traditional church where God's spirit takes preeminence.

The opening service, on July 17, , was attended by over people and well wishers including the mayor of the city of Detroit, Kwame Kilpatrick along with other dignitaries and city officials. M
