MARIO TORAL’S BIOGRAPHY
He was born in the city of Santiago de Chile in He left home at a very young age, travelling first to Argentina and then to Uruguay, where he completed his artistic studies at the National School of Fine Arts. There he received the teaching of the constructivist movement that was strongly rooted in the country. In he travelled to Paris, where he would complete his training in Henri Adam’s workshop. He was to live and work in the city for seven years.
He finally returned to Chile after fourteen years, where he was to develop his artistic career as a painter, illustrator, muralist and documentary filmmaker, whilst teaching at Santiago’s Pontifical Catholic University.
In he travelled to New York where he settled until , when he returned to Chile; he still maintains his second residence in the United States.
Toral was the creator and first Dean of the Faculty of Arts of the Finis Terrae University and he has been a Full Member of the Academy of Fine Arts of the Institute of Chile since

Mario Toral Muñoz (born in Santiago, Chile, on 12 February )[1] is a Chilean painter and photographer.
Career
At the age of 16, Toral moved to Buenos Aires, where he saved money to enroll in the Escuela de Bellas Artes (School of Fine Arts) in Montevideo, Uruguay. He later went to Brazil, where at 21 the first exhibition of his work was shown at the Sao Paulo Museum of Modern Art.[2] In , Toral moved to France, where he studied at the School of Fine Arts in Paris.
Between and , Toral lived in New York. Major works completed during this period include Prisioneras de Piedra (Prisoners of Stone, ) and Mascaras (Masks, ).[3]
Returning to Chile in , Toral was a professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Finis Terrae University.
In September, Toral received the medal of honor from the Pablo Neruda Foundation in recognition of his career trajectory and contributions to Chilean culture.[4] Toral had collaborated with the poet Pablo Neruda, illustrating a number of his poems, including a edition of Alturas de Macchu Picchu.

Después de vivir siete años en Francia vuelve a Chile, de donde había estado ausente catorce años. Enseña pintura en la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Santiago, ilustra varios libros de Pablo Neruda, ejecuta murales y se realizan documentales sobre su obra. En se traslada a Nueva York, en donde hasta la actualidad tiene su segunda residencia.
Fue nombrado Artista en Residencia en la Universidad de Fordham y en obtuvo la Beca de la Fundación Guggenheim.
En Santiago ha sido primer Decano de la Facultad de Artes de la Universidad FinisTerrae.
Ha escrito cuentos que se han publicado en revistas literarias en (“Escantalar” y “Literatura Chilena en el Exilio”), Francia (“Araucaria”), Suecia “Malmö, Revista del Sur”), Chile (“Revista de la Universidad Católica”) y otras publicaciones.
